The Council Office, Campbelltown Arts Centre and some services will be closed from Friday 18 April, reopening Tuesday 22 April 2025, and closed on Friday 25 April.
On 1 December 1820, Governor Lachlan Macquarie named the area Campbell Town in honour of his wife's maiden name, with the area later being known simply as Campbelltown.
In 1882, the area was officially proclaimed as the Municipal District of Campbelltown by the Governor of NSW. Nine Aldermen were elected, with John Ahearn elected the first Mayor of Campbelltown.
Town Clerk was the title given to chief officer of the Council and head of the administrative structure under the Local Government Act 1919 (the 1919 Act). In the early 1990s, a review of the governance arrangements of councils in NSW led to significant legislative reform and the replacement of the 1919 Act with the Local Government Act 1993. As part of these reforms the title of Town Clerk was abolished and replaced with General Manager.
