History of the Sister City relationship with Coonamble

Campbelltown signed an agreement with Coonamble in March 2002.

Official visits to Coonamble and Campbelltown soon followed where both Councils Mayor and General Managers attended to discuss governance.

Each year, Coonamble generously supports the Fisher's Ghost Art Award through sponsorship of one of the award categories, as well as promoting entry into the award by residents from the Coonamble Shire.

Campbelltown supports the annual Coonamble Rodeo and Camp Draft as a gold sponsor, supporting the saddle provided as the major prize of the maiden draft. One of the largest such events in the southern hemisphere, between 2002 and 2006.

Campbelltown Mayor, Cr Aaron Rule and General Manager, Paul Tosi visited Coonamble in June of 2007 to explore opportunities to further enhance the Sister City Relationship over the next five years.

Message from Mayor of Campbelltown

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Brenton Banfield, shared at the time that he appreciates the experiences with our Sister City.

"Campbelltown's relationship with Coonamble has brought many positive benefits to both communities including reciprocal exchanges and educational displays, and many of our local school students have established some great e-pal relationships with their country cousins" said Cr Banfield.

Campbelltown Council lends support to Coonamble during a drought

Campbelltown Council was recognised in October 2018 for raising money and the spirits for farmers of our Sister City, while they were experiencing a drought.

"They are in really horrendous drought conditions at the moment. They are struggling to buy feed and are really doing it tough. Coonamble is a special place for Campbelltown Council as one of four Sister Cities and we want to help out as best we can" said Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic.
