Meet Aseki, a pint-sized pork chop with loads of personality...

About: Aseki is an independent boy, he is happy, confident, and excited about walking & play time. He does have a stubborn streak though and can be a little tetchy at times… No one can say that he doesn’t have personality!

Aseki is best suited with someone with experience, someone who has owned dogs before. Due to his adaptable nature he is suitable for any home environment. He is also a good choice for people who are active as he too likes to be on the go, go, go.

Ideal Home: Aseki is suitable to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard and high secure fencing. He is also fine to live in a small yard, providing he gets his daily walks.

Family: Aseki is open to meet kids from 12 years & up. Reason for this is due to his mouthing behaviour. You see, Aseki is a funny little man where if he doesn’t ‘get his way’ he will mouth you in protest – this usually happens during play/interaction – the mouthing doesn’t hurt but it’s not a favourable behaviour. We are pro mental health here at the ACF & so to counteract this we are using a 'bite toy'/'bite pillow', which gives Aseki an alternative & healthy way to get his frustrations out.

Aseki is suitable to live with people who work full-time hours.

Furry Friends: Aseki is open to meet dogs, during his dog assessment he showed social behaviour, however he does need continued socialisation to ensure that his social skill stay on point.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Aseki would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.

Training & Development: Aseki’s energy needs are medium & he would benefit from walks, play or training from 20-60mins a day. He would also benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic obedience & commands, and group classes to cover dog social skills. It would also be an idea to liaise with a professional trainer regarding his impulse control.

Aseki loves food & treats and these will be good to use for training sessions; he is still learning how to take them gently though. When the treats are whipped out he will put on his focus face, which you can see in his photos.

Aseki is still learning his name but knows how to ‘sit’ & ‘shake’.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Aseki does walk really well on a lead, with minimal pulling, he can be walked on a collar & lead. Aseki is also not really interested in toys, he prefers human interaction.

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
