Meet Captain, a cheeky boy ready to sail right into your heart...

About: Captain is a friendly, happy & smart boy. He can be excitable, especially around meeting new people & is playful, affectionate & engaging.

Captain is best suited with someone who has Husky experience, and he is suitable for any household and is a great choice for people who are active & spend time outdoors.

Captain is always up for fun, games & a good ol' adventure!

Ideal Home: Captain would be fine to live in a house or farm/acreage with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.

Captain is looking forward to be allowed inside his new home, where can lap up the creature comforts of inside living.

Family: Captain is also open to meet kids of any age, but it is important to note that he a larger dog, although he rarely jumps, he may knock smaller kids over.

Captain is fine to live with people who work part-time hours.

Furry Friends: Captain previously lived with dogs, he lived with Bruno (ID: 35792) and Pirate (ID: 35794). However we have said that he is dog selective as he displayed behaviour which indicated that he is a little unsure when meeting dogs that he doesn't know. He was able to relax as the assessment went on but we want to work with him on his desensitisation with other dogs.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Captain would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.

Training & Development: Captain would also benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience.

Captain has had previous training, so it is important that this training is fostered and continued so that he can be the best version of himself & keep his mind active & engaged. Captain really wants to learn and loves training sessions.

Captain is food motivated and takes treats from your hand very gently. He is still learning his name, but he knows ‘sit’, ‘down’ & loose leash walking.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Captain energy needs are medium and he would benefit from walks, play or exercise from 20-60mins a day. Captain walks well on a lead with minimal pulling and he is best walked on a collar & lead.

Captain also loves toys, especially soft, plush toys, he loves to rumble with them & throw them around and snuggle with them afterwards.

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
