Meet Cheeky,
Looking for a dog who’s as adaptable as your weekend plans? Meet Cheeky! Whether your home is a peaceful retreat or feels like a non-stop festival, she’ll fit right in like she’s been there all along. Cheeky is perfect for first-time owners because she’s got the whole “good dog” thing down. She’s gentle, friendly, and super agreeable —basically, the kind of dog who would RSVP “yes” to any invitation, whether it’s a nap on the couch or a game of fetch at the park.
She’s a social butterfly with both humans and dogs, greeting new friends with an excited wiggle, a big smile and an ever-wagging tail. If you’re an active person or family, she’ll happily join you on walks, playtime, or any adventure — just make sure to save her a comfy spot when it’s time to relax. With her happy-go-lucky personality, sweet nature, and affectionate heart, Cheeky is ready to bring love, laughter, and endless cuddles into your life.
Ideal Home: Cheeky is suitable to live in any type of home, just as long as the home has a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Cheeky enjoys spending time in the yard, but she also needs time indoors to feel like a valued part of the family.
Family: Cheeky is open to meet kids of any age & she would be suitable for people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Cheeky is open to meet other dogs. Her dog assessment went well, she was excited to meet & interact with the other dog, she displays loose body through out and big tail wags. She exchanged a few play bows with the other dog and was very easy-going. She's a very trainable dog. However, if the other dog reacts negativity towards her, Cheeky will reciprocate those behaviours.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Cheeky would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Cheeky would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & group classes so that her dog social skills don't get stale. While Cheeky is known to jump, she only does this for attention/affectionate & is very gentle when doing so.
With additional training & a chance to settle into a new home/routine, Cheeky could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event.
Cheeky knows her name & she knows commands such as: sit but she is smart & is very trainable. She is food motivated and is gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Cheeky has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins every other day to keep her happy & healthy. Cheeky is playful & likes to play with all types of toys. She also enjoys personal play with her handlers & engaging in training sessions.
Cheeky walks well on lead with minimal pulling & she is fine to be walked on any walking apparatus.
Staff Comments: Cheeky is a sweet, excitable and playful dog who would suit any home. She is very affectionate and would be fine with children. She's an engaging dog and a perfect mix of lap dog and silly puppy. She's fun, she loves her toys & her treats and she’s absolutely stunning!
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
