Meet Cheesecake,

About: Cheesecake is a gentle, sweet girl who is slightly anxious & sensitive. She is best suited to an experienced owner.

Cheesecake is also friendly, happy, playful, social & very affectionate!

Cheesecake is best suited to a calm & quiet home as she is sensitive to loud noises. She would also be a great dog for people who are active & spend time outdoors, as she loves to explore.

Ideal Home: Cheesecake is best to live in a townhouse/duplex, standalone house or farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing. Free access to inside the home would be great for Cheesecake as she loves to be close to her human friends.

Family: Cheesecake is open to meet kids from 10 years & up. Reason for this is that she can be a bit timid at times. Older kids will allow her to feel her feelings, without overwhelming her. Once she is comfortable you get to see her confident side.

Cheesecake is fine to live with people who work part-time.

Furry Friends: Cheesecake is best to be the only dog for now. During her dog assessment she was actually really good with the other dog, but her lack of social skills frustrated her. So, we will be working with her to fine tune her social skills. With her up-skilling we have no doubt that she will be dog social.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Cheesecake would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.

Training & Development: Cheesecake would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & group classes to assist with her doggo social skills.

Cheesecake is still learning her name, but she does know how to ‘sit’. She is also food motivated, often taking treats gently (unless she gets excited & forgets her manners), so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Cheesecake has mid-range energy levels and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins per day to keep her content.

Cheesecake walks well on lead, but very basic leash training should be apart of her training. She is best walked on a collar & lead.

Cheesecake loves to play with soft, plush toys and also likes human interaction & personal play.

Staff Comments: Cheesecake is a little timid & sensitive but loves people. She is vert affectionate & will give you the best cuddles when she is settled & comfy around you.

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
