Meet Fleetwood, a happy & social girl with a sensitive side...

About: Fleetwood is a sensitive little girl who is overall friendly & happy. She really wants to make you proud & tries her hardest to follow obedience commands but sometimes she is just too excited to focus on the task at hand. Fleetwood is playful, social, very affectionate & loves engaging with her handlers.

Fleetwood is suitable for first time owners, or those who have experience, and based on her care-free ‘tude she is suitable to live in any household and would be a great companion for people who are active & spend time outdoors. A hike? Check! A run? Check! Camping? Double check!

Ideal Home: Fleetwood is suitable to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing. As she adores human interaction, Fleetwood would love the option to spend time indoors with her new family.

Family: Fleetwood is open to meet kids of any age, but she can jump when she is excited, so families need to understand this behaviour if you have smaller kids.

Fleetwood would be fine to live with people who work full-time hours.

Furry Friends: Fleetwood is best as the only dog in the home, Fleetwood has not had any socialisation in her previous home and this was evident in her dog assessment. She showed classic signs of not wanting to interact & being uncomfortable. ACF staff are committed to working with her social skills which may see them improve, but for now, she needs to be the only dog in the home.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Fleetwood would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.

Training & Development: Fleetwood would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience.

Fleetwood is food motivated & she takes treats gently from your hand. Treats are a great tool to use for training sessions!

She is still learning her name but knows how to ‘sit’. As mentioned before Fleetwood jumps up when she is excited, but she is smart enough & willing enough to learn to not do this. She’s a very lovely dog with loads of potential!

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Fleetwood has medium to high energy needs, and she would need exercise, walks or playtime from 30-60mins a day to keep her happy & healthy.
Fleetwood is very excited when being walked so she pulls slightly, and she would benefit from leash training. She is best walked on a martingale.
She shows a small amount of interest in toys but prefers to interact with humans rather than toys.

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
