Meet George,
Have you ever wanted a dog who’s equal parts adventure buddy, cuddle bug, and lovable goof ball? Well, George could be the dog for you!
George is the kind of dog who’s always up for anything. A morning jog? He’s lacing up his imaginary sneakers. A lazy Sunday on the couch? He’s already picked his spot (right next to you, of course). A spontaneous road trip? Just say the word – he’s riding shotgun! Whether you’re a first-time dog owner, an active adventurer, or just looking for an affectionate, engaging best friend, George is ready to be your new sidekick.
He’s got brains and beauty – though sometimes his "smart dog" moments take a backseat to his "big doofus" energy. While he knows a heap of tricks/commands and he is super trainable, he sometimes defaults back to 'puppy-mode' where he'll frolic around, trip over & just be a giant clown... But this is why we love him!
George is social, confident, and playful. Strangers aren't strangers to George - they're friends that he hasn't met yet! While he can be a bit boisterous in his excitement, he also has the sweetest, softest moments that will melt your heart.
Ideal Home: George is suitable to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
George is fine to spend time in the yard on his own, but he would also appreciate being included, indoors, with his new family.
Family: George is open to meet kids of any age, but families with young children should be aware that he still plays like a puppy and may unintentionally knock over smaller kids during playtime.
George is suitable to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: George is open to meet other dogs. During his dog assessment he was very excited to meet the other dog. He had a nice, loose body, big tail wags & butt wiggles - he couldn't contained his play bows, either. He is a very happy boy with puppy-like behaviour when it comes to playing with other dogs.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how George would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: George would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes would also be good to ensure that the doggo social skills that he already has don't get rusty. When George gets excited, he is known to jump up to say hello, but it's not too bad - he is smart enough to learn how to correct this behaviour.
With time to settle & ongoing training, George could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friend café or social setting.
George is still learning his name, but he knows commands such as: sit, drop, shake, roll, crawl & bed (place). He is smart & is very trainable. He is food motivated and is known to be gentle when taking treats from you - having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: George has mid to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins every day to keep him healthy & satisfied. George shows some interest in playing with toys, but he really enjoys personal play with his handlers & other dogs.
George walks well on lead but can pull a little sometimes. He is best to be walked on a martingale.
Staff Comments: George is suitable for most homes & lifestyles. He is a very smart boy but he can be a little boisterous as times. He's a fun dog whose just a bog softy and loves to play and soak up your attention.
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
