Meet Koojo,
About: Koojo is a remarkable dog with a personality as big as his heart! Best suited to experienced dog owners, Koojo is also incredibly adaptable and would thrive in any household environment. His gentle and agreeable nature makes him a joy to be around, while his friendly, happy, and outgoing personality ensures he fits right in with family life. He'd even be a great fit for active families as he loves to go for walks & explore!
Smart and curious, Koojo loves exploring his surroundings and engaging with his humans. Whether it’s playtime in the yard, a stroll through the neighbourhood, or snuggling on the couch, Koojo is always ready for quality time. His social and affectionate demeanour means he bonds quickly and loves being part of the action.
If you're looking for a loyal companion who brings warmth, joy, and endless tail wags into your home, Koojo is your guy. Don’t miss the chance to meet this special pup—he might just be the perfect addition to your family!
Ideal Home: Koojo is best suited to live in a townhouse, standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large sized yard & high, secure fencing.
Koojo would enjoy having free access to the indoors when his owners are home so that he can spend time with his new family.
Family: Koojo is open to meet kids of any age & is suitable to live with people who would full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Koojo is best to be the only dog in the home. His dog assessment indicated that he is not interested in making dog friends, this could be due to past trauma or lack of socialising in his previous home. Koojo can, at times, be dog selective. We've observed that Koojo seems more relaxed around certain dogs, while others can increase his stress levels. However, we believe he would thrive best as the only dog in the home to ensure he remains completely stress-free.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Koojo would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Koojo would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Koojo can sometimes get a little overexcited and may display mounting behaviour. This is often his way of showing excitement or seeking attention, and with gentle guidance and redirection, it can be managed effectively.
Koojo knows his name & also knows how to 'sit', 'shake' & is also toilet trained. Koojo is food motivated & will always take treats from you gently. Koojo may jump on occasion, but is gentle when doing so, as he only does this because he wants to cuddle you.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Koojo has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from walking, play or exercise, from 20-30mins per day to keep him content. Koojo prefers one on one time with his handlers over play with toys but he does love to pay with water so a shell pool is a must in his new home.
Koojo walks well on a lead with minimal pulling & he is fine to be walked on any apparatus.
Staff Comments: Koojo is very sweet, calm & gentle. He loves to cuddle & is a pleasure to walk. He is smart, knows his name & commands & is even toilet trained.
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
