Meet Lizzy,

About: Lizzy gained some traction on our socials due to her slight, skinny frame. We have been able to fatten her up & she is sitting pretty at a nice, healthy weight now.

Lizzy a sweet girl, she is gentle, agreeable, friendly & super affectionate! However, she can be a little anxious at times, and based on how she came in, we can’t blame her! Lizzy is best suited with an experienced owner.

Lizzy is best suited in a calm & quiet home as she is sensitive to loud noises.

Ideal Home: Lizzy would be fine to live in a townhouse, standalone house, or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing. Free access to inside the home would be great for Lizzy, she would love the opportunity to spend quality time with her new family.

Family: Lizzy is open to meet kids from 5 years & up. Reason for this is that she can be a bit timid around new people that she doesn’t know. But even if you have kids that are younger than 5, as long as they’re dog savvy, that will be fine too. Lizzy is a happy girl, who is curious and very eager to be social & be a part of your family.

Lizzy is fine to live with people who work full-time.

Furry Friends: Lizzy is open to meet dogs but may be selective of who she chooses to be friends with. During her assessment Lizzy was a little unsure at first but quickly came round to the idea of making friends. The dog we matched her up with was Pirate, and he’s very respectful of other dogs and very social, so as long as the other dog she meets are also respectful and not boisterous then Lizzy will be fine.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Lizzy would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.

Training & Development: Lizzy would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & group classes to assist with her lack of confidence when meeting new dogs.

Lizzy is still learning her name, but she is very smart does know how to ‘sit’, ‘down’ & ‘shake’ & will offer a sit just because... Lizzy is food motivated, often taking treats gently, so having treats on you during training to reward her progress would be an excellent idea.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Lizzy has mid-range energy levels and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins per day to keep her content & healthy.

Lizzy walks well on lead, but she will initially pull, so loose leash training should be apart of her training. Once she has gotten her energy out she walks like a dream with no pulling at all. She is best walked with a martingale.

Lizzy hasn’t shown too much interest in playing with toys, she prefers human interaction & personal play.

Staff Comments: Lizzy only very slightly timid t times, but she is the sweetest girl with you will ever meet. She’s very affectionate and is always keen for a cuddle. During her photos she decided to take a nap and she passed her behaviour assessment with flying colours – she knows how to turn on the charm and we have no doubt that she’ll melt your heart!

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
