Meet Macie,

About: Macie is a gentle & girl who is suitable for experienced owners or owners with working breed experience. Macie can come off as a bit nervous but deep down she is friendly, happy & curious. Her working breed lineage shines through as she is smart and appears to want to ‘work’ but her lack of confidence holds her back from her full potential.

Macie would be best suited to a calm & quiet environment as she is a touch sensitive to loud noises & big movements having said this, she would make a great dog for those who are active as her working breed mix ensures that she is always keen for an adventure whether it be a walk, hike or run.

Ideal Home: Macie is best to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large sized yard & high secure fencing to keep her safe & contained.

Whilst Macie would be fine to live outdoors, access to inside the home would also be just as beneficial for Macie so that she can feel like part of the family.

Family: Macie is open to meet kids from 6-8 yrs & up. Reason for this is due to her lack of confidence and that fact that she does jump up to greet you. While she may find it an endearing quality it may be a little too much for smaller kids. We are open to her going home to younger kids though, just as long as they are dog savvy.

Macie is also fine to live with people who work part-time so that her training needs are met.

Furry Friends: Macie must be the only dog in the home. Unfortunately she missed out on being socialised in her previous home which has resulting in her not being a fan of other dogs completely. During her dog assessment she gave clear signs & body language that she did not want to proceed and we respected her wishes and did not push her further.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Macie would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners. Her working breed may see that she have high prey drive, but so far, we have not witnessed this in the shelter.

Training & Development: Macie would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic obedience & commands as well as group classes to assist her with her confidence in new environments.

Macie is still learning her name, but she knows ‘sit’ & ‘down’ and will happily learn more. Macie is food motivated and she loves her treats so having these on hand during training sessions would be a great idea.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Macie has an excitable & playful nature and medium energy levels. She would benefit from exercise, walks or play time from 30-60mins a day. Macie loves chew toys & tennis balls.

Macie walks well on a lead but can pull sometimes so she is best walked on a martingale.

Staff Comments: Macie is a lovely, sweet girl. She’s got loads of energy and potential. She was under socialised in her previous home so new environments can be overwhelming for her but she pushes through like the little trooper that she is. Macie will need a confident owner & supportive environment & commitment to training. She’s a very engaging dog and we all love her!

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
