Meet Mendozer,

About: Mendozer is a vibrant and spirited boy. Mendozer is best suited to experienced owners who can keep up with his energetic lifestyle. He will do well in any household environment, making him a versatile choice for active individuals or families who love to be out and about.

Mendozer overall is a gentle and agreeable dog with a friendly and happy demeanour. His outgoing personality shines through in everything he does. He is confident, curious, and excitable, always eager to explore new places and meet new friends. He is playful and social, and he loves to engage with people and other dogs alike. This affectionate boy has a boisterous side, and his personality truly comes alive when he doesn’t get his way. Mendozer can be quite the character, becoming very talkative, a little bit stubborn and he is know to dramatically turn his head away from you as if to say, “You don’t exist to me!” but it’s all part of his charm & unique character.

Ideal Home: Mendozer is best suited to live in a standalone house or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large sized yard & high, secure fencing.

Mendozer would be fine to spend most of his time in the yard unmonitored but on occasion would love the opportunity to be indoors, close to have family.

Family: Mendozer is open to meet children aged 8 and older. This is because of his size - he is a bog boy & sometimes forgets his size.

Mendozer would be fine to live in a home with people who work full-time hours.

Furry Friends: Mendozer is open to meet other dogs. During his dog assessment he was eager to interact although he was a little unsure at the start. He became vocal during the assessment when the other dog didn't want to play anymore but he tried his best to entice more play by showing off his best play bows.

As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Mendozer would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners. He may be a little too energetic & big for smaller animals...

Training & Development: Mendozer would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. A pro trainer coming on board may be a good idea, because we feel that Mendozer is quite smart & is trying to tell us something when he barks at us - having a trainer on board will help Mendozer to articulate his intentions through vocalisation training.

Mendozer knows his name & also knows commands like 'sit' & is toilet trained. Mendozer is food motivated & will take treats from you gently. Mendozer will jump on you to say hello when he first meets you - this is just because he is excited.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Mendozer has mid to high-range energy needs & would benefit from walking, play or exercise, from 20-60mins per day to keep him content & healthy. Mendozer loves to play with toys, but only sometimes. He prefers spending quality time with his handlers.

Mendozer walks well on a lead but only after the initial excitement has worn off. Mendozer loves to go for walks, it makes him very happy! He is best to be walked with a collar & lead.

Staff Comments: Mendozer is very well toilet trained - when left alone after a walk he settles down on his bed for the day & is content & quiet. He is very affectionate but sometimes forgets his size. He would thrive in an active household where he can enjoy plenty of exercise and playtime. He would be a great fit for families who love outdoor adventures, as he is always ready to join in on the fun!

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
