Meet Pirate, a scallywag sea-dog ready to sail the seven seas with his new family...

About: Pirate is a friendly, happy & smart boy. He is excited about meeting new people & is playful, social, affectionate & engaging. Pirate however can be a little unsure when he meets new people for the first time, so it is important that he is properly introduced to new people and allowed to decompress, although it doesn’t take Pirate long to relax & shower you with love & adoration.

Pirate is best suited with someone who has Husky breed experience or dog experience in general. Pirate is also suitable for any household and is a great candidate for people who are active & like to spend time outdoors. He will happily come with you on any adventure; on sea or land!

Ideal Home: Pirate would be fine to live in a house or farm/acreage with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.

Being a lover of people, it would be important for Pirate to be allowed inside his new home so that he can spend time with his new family.

Family: Pirate is also open to meet kids of any age, as long as the kids are dog savvy.

Pirate is fine to live with people who work part-time hours.

Furry Friends: Pirate previously lived with dogs, he lived with Bruno (ID: 35792) and Captain (ID: 35793). Pirate is quite social when meeting other dogs, so he is open to meet. Much like when meeting new people for the first time Pirate was a little unsure at first, but after a few sniffs he offered so many play bows that we actually lost count! He was also very respectful during play time as well.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Pirate would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.

Training & Development: Pirate would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & maybe consult with a professional trainer regarding his first reactions when meeting new people – Pirate gets unsure of himself & needs time to decompress. A pro may be able to give advice on how to properly manage this behaviour or eradicate it completely.

Pirate has had previous training and it shows; it is important that this training is fostered and continued so that he can be the best version of himself & keep his mind active. He wants to learn, he loves to be engaged & work.

Pirate is also food motivated and takes treats from your hand very gently. He is still learning his name, but he knows ‘sit’, ‘down’ & loose leash walking.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Pirate’s energy needs are medium, and he would benefit from walks, play or exercise from 20-60mins a day. Pirate walks well on a lead with minimal pulling, so he is best walked on a collar & lead.
Pirate also loves toys, especially plush toys & tennis balls.

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
