Meet Royal,
If you’re looking for a happy, energetic pup who’s always ready for action, Royal might just be your new best pal! This confident girl is full of life and personality - she’s curious about the world, excited to explore, and always up for whatever adventure the day brings.
Royal is super social and thrives on interaction. She plays hard, loves hard, and brings a whole lot of enthusiasm to everything she does. Her boisterous nature makes her a whole lot of fun, and she’d be an awesome match for active people or families who love to stay on the move.
She’s adaptable, smart, and ready to slot into all kinds of homes - but she’ll do best with experienced owners who understand how to guide her spirited personality in the right direction.
Ideal Home: Royal is suitable to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Family: Royal is open to meet kids from 8 years & up. Reason for this is due to her love of life & playful ways. She may accidently knock smaller kids over.
Royal is also fine to spend time in the yard on her own, but would love the opportunity to be inside with her new family, too. She is fine to live with people who work part-time or with people who are home more often than not.
Furry Friends: Royal is best to be the only dog in the home. During her dog assessment it became apparent that she did get the opportunity to socialise with other dogs. She seems somewhat interested in the other dog, but her body language indicated that although she is curious about them, she is not keen in being friends with them.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Royal would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners. But we feel that her energy may be too much for small animals.
Training & Development: Royal would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Royal is known to jump from excitement, although with training & routine we have seen that she is jumping less - she just gets excited when meeting new people. She may need additional training for manners. though.
Royal knows her name, although sometimes she pretends that she doesn't. She also knows commands such as: sit & shake - she is also toilet trained. She is food motivated and is known to be gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea - Royal loves devon.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Royal has mid to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 60mins+ a day to keep her healthy & content. Royal shows some interest in playing with toys but she doesn't have a favourite - she really enjoys personal interaction with her handlers.
Royal is ok when walking - she pulls a little but is very well behaved. Royal is best to be walked on a harness & lead.
Staff Comments: Royal is toilet trained and is very sweet, but she does have some energy to burn. She'd do well in a home with experienced owners.

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
