Meet Sara,
Are you looking for a dog with personality? A little sass, a lot of love, and just the right amount of stubbornness to keep life interesting? Well, say hello to Sara – the affectionate, happy-go-lucky girl who’s ready to charm her way into your heart!
Sara is a social butterfly who loves to be part of the action - whether that’s zooming around the backyard, curling up on the couch, or giving you her best “did-you-just-open-a-treat-bag?” stare. She’s adaptable and will thrive in any home, whether you’re a party host extraordinaire or more of a “Netflix and snacks” kind of person (she supports both lifestyles equally).
That said, Sara prefers to be the one and only dog in your life — she’s a bit reactive with other dogs but very manageable - she’ll need an experienced owner to guide her. But with people? She’s all in! Expect tail wags, cuddles, and the occasional “Sara special” stubborn moment (usually when she wants extra belly rubs). If you’re ready for a loyal, loving, and slightly dramatic best friend, Sara is waiting to meet you.
Ideal Home: Sara is suitable to live in a townhouse, standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Sara is happy to spend time in the yard on her own, but she also wants to be included indoors with her new family to feel loved and cherished.
Family: Sara is open to meet kids of any age & she would be suitable for people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Sara must be the only dog in the home. Her dog assessment indicated to us that her previous home failed to socialise her with other dogs; she has most likely been the only dog in her home for most of her life. She is also not interested in making friends either.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Sara would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Sara would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Sara may 'jump' when she meets you, although we use the term jump very loosely - they're more like little hops that she will do when she first meets you.
Sara knows her name & she knows commands such as: sit, shake & bed (place). She is smart & is very trainable. She is food motivated and is usually gentle when taking treats from you (although she may forget her manners sometimes) - having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Sara has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins every other day to keep her healthy & content. Sara is playful & likes to play with all types of toys but her interest is short lived unless you make her toys move/animate. She also enjoys personal play with her handlers & going for walks.
Sara walks well on lead but can pull a little sometimes. She is best to be walked on a martingale or harness.
Staff Comments: Sara was a little shut down she she first came in to us. She is a super sweet dog and very outgoing now. She just needs a little bit of time to decompress & learn a new routine. She is a confident girl who loves people and loves to make new friends. She is engaging & agreeable. She is a very happy girl.
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
