Meet Speckles,
Say hello to Speckles, the delightful young girl who’s ready to brighten up your home! This sweet girl is the total package – friendly, affectionate, and always ready to make new friends (both human and furry!).
Speckles is a gentle and agreeable dog who loves cuddles, pats, and of course… treats! She’s also a curious and excitable pup who loves to explore her surroundings and engage with the world around her. Whether it’s a bustling household full of energy or a quiet, cozy home, Speckles will fit right in. She’s adaptable and happy wherever love is found!
Though she can be a little shy at first, give her a little time, and you’ll see her sweet, outgoing personality shine. If you’re looking for a loving, social, and smart dog to join your family, Speckles is the one for you!
Ideal Home: Speckles is best suited to live in a townhouse, standalone home or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Speckles would love occasional access inside the home to spend quality time with her new family and feel cherished.
Family: Speckles is open to meet kids of any age as long as they are understanding that she can be a little sensitive at times. She is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Speckles is open to meet dogs. but she may be a little nervous at the start. Her behaviour towards other dogs depends on the behaviour of the dog she is meeting. Speckles prefers to company of quiet, calm & gentle dogs over loud & boisterous dogs. During her dog assessment she was a little nervous at first but was able to relax as the dog she was paired up with matched her gentle nature. She became more comfortable as the interaction went on & was able to display playful behaviour & exchange sniffs, licks & play bows.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Speckles would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Speckles would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & while she doesn't always jump, she may sometimes place her paws on you to say hello. Group classes with other dogs would be good too so that Speckles can work on her social skills around other social dogs & grow her confidence.
With additional training Speckles can be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event.
Speckles is still learning her name, but she also knows commands such as: sit and down, and she is eager to learn more. She is food motivated, so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea, but she may forget her manners & snatch food from your hand.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Speckles has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep her healthy & content. She is playful & loves to play with soft toys.
Speckles walks well on lead, and she can be walked on any walking apparatus.
Staff Comments: Speckles is sweet, affectionate but slightly sensitive to unfamiliar things & places - but she is able to recover quickly. She is a smart dog who is food motivated and is improving & thriving in our care. She would have a family or individual very happy!
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
