Meet Tara,

About: Tara is a spirited and independent soul. This friendly, happy, and outgoing girl is ready to bring love and excitement to her forever home. Adaptable and full of life, Tara would thrive in any household environment, she’s a perfect match for active families or experienced dog owners looking for a loyal four legged friend to share in life’s adventures.

Tara is a free-spirited pup who’s always ready for playtime, and her energetic nature will keep you entertained. From long walks in the park to backyard games, Tara is sure to be right by your side, tail wagging all the way.

But there’s more to Tara than just fun and games. This special girl is looking for a dedicated owner who’s committed to her ongoing development and training. With patience, structure, and plenty of love, Tara has the potential to become the best version of herself. She’s eager to learn and ready to grow with the right guidance. Unfortunately, Tara’s past wasn’t as kind as she deserves. She was let down by her previous home, but that hasn’t dulled her bright spirit. She’s ready to leave the past behind and start fresh with a family that will love her unconditionally.

Ideal Home: Tara is best suited to live in a standalone house or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large sized yard & high, secure fencing.

Tara would do well in a home that allows her access to inside the home when her family is home.

Family: Tara would do best in a home with children aged 10 and up. As a playful puppy, she loves her fun time, but her growth and development are just as important. Older kids can actively participate in her basic training (supervised), and with everyone involved, Tara is sure to thrive.

Tara would do well in a home with people who work part-time hours.

Furry Friends:Tara was once considered best to be the only dog in the home. But with ongoing support & training we have watched her grow into a more social dog. While dogs in the distance still make Tara second guess herself, once she is close to them she enjoys their company and engages in social play & likes to exchange sniffs & play bows. She has come so far with her social skills but her social training will need to continue in her new home.

As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Tara would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners. However, we feel that her energetic nature may be too much for some cats.

Training & Development: Tara would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Tara would do well with group classes, where she can extend on her doggo social skills. This will give her the opportunity to meet other dogs in a controlled environment & learning valuable skills from the trainer.

Tara is still learning her name, but she now knows commands such as: sit & place (bed). Tara is food motivated, but may snatch treats on occasion if she is too excited. Overall she is gentle when taking them. Tara is known jump on occasion, she usually does this when she is very excited, but we are working with her on this.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.

Play: Tara has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from walking, play or exercise, from 30-60mins per day to keep her happy. Tara loves to play with toys, she prefers to play with soft toys.

Tara walks well on a lead but she is bouncy when walking. She is best walked on a harness.

Staff Comments: Tara is a young dog who has had a rough up bringing. She hasn't received socialisation in her previous home which you can see in her overall behaviour. She wants to learn, and she will learn, but she just needs a patient home & a understanding & dedicated owner to help on her journey to success. She loves people so much & gets so excited to meet you. Tara has come such a long way from where she was to where she is now & we are so proud of her development & her tenacity.

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
