Meet Zeus,

About: Zeus is an independent & friendly dog who is suitable for experienced owners. He is happy and confident in himself & his handler. He can be a tad bit stubborn at times but is overall fairly easy-going. He loves to engage with you & interact & make friends. As he is part Husky, he will sing you the song of his people (howl) on occasion. Zeus also appears to be a little head shy, he tolerates touch but when he feels like it's enough he will pull away - this is his way of saying 'that's enough'...

Zeus is suitable for any household environment & would be a great choice for people who are active as he would be an ideal adventure buddy!

Ideal Home: Zeus is best suited to live in a standalone house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.

Access to inside the home would be wonderful, so that Zeus can snuggle up on the couch & feel like part of a family. He's a true sweetheart and he adores his handlers that work with him every day.

Family: Zeus is open to meet kids from 8 years & up. Reason for this is simply because he's a bigger dog & kids should be understanding of his independence & need for personal space.

Zeus is fine to live with people who work full-time hours.

Furry Friends: Zeus is best to be the only dog in the home. During his dog assessment  showed signs that he was uncomfortable in the presence of another dog & made it clear that he does not want to make friends. We won't push Zeus to be friends with other dogs but what we are working on with him is his ability to walk & be around other dogs without distress/issues.

As we cannot test, we are unsure how Zeus would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.

Training & Development: Zeus would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience. During kennel cleans, Zeus is very mindful & respectful of his handler and will listen to commands to ensure that cleaning is done without a hitch.

Zeus knows his name and he also knows how to 'sit'. He is also food motivated, so having treats on you during training sessions will be a great idea! He also takes treats gently form your hand. And whilst he may jump a little when you first meet him, he's just excited to say hello, once the excitement wears off so too does his jumping.

We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Zeus has mid-range energy levels and would benefit from 20-60mins a day of play time, walking or exercise to keep him happy& healthy. Zeus may show interest in toys but he prefers personal play with his humans.

Zeus walks ok on a lead, but is strong, so he is best walked on a martingale. Loose leash walking should be incorporated into his training.

Staff Comments: Zeus is a big, cute, fluffy guy who is affectionate & sweet. However, he can be a little uncomfortable when it comes to some touching, for example around his head. But he manages this by pulling away when he feels it's too much for him. He's a fun dog though, and we all think that he also knows how incredibly handsome he is too!

Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
