The earth's resources are not limitless. We need to move away from the linear 'take - make - waste' system, to ensure that we have enough food, energy, resources and materials to continue to serve the needs of our ever growing populations, while limiting the impact on the environment and biodiversity.
Around the world the explosion of global trade, consumption and increased urbanisation has led to the exploitation and destruction of nature at a rate never seen before. The current state of our planet is a direct result of the way we produce and consume things. This linear, extractive and polluting model poses major risks to our economic activities and is a threat to our own well-being.
The circular economy gives us the tools to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss, while also addressing important social needs. A circular economy creates a thriving economy that benefits everyone within the limits of our planet. It goes beyond simply sustaining what we have, and focuses on driving growth which regenerates and actually improves our natural world.
