The Northern Road provides access to Penrith, with Appin Road connecting the city to Wollongong and the Illawarra region.

Campbelltown has direct rail connections to Sydney, Sydney Airport, Canberra and Melbourne. Additionally, the Macarthur Intermodal Shipping Terminal (MIST) located at Minto, operates a freight rail terminal and warehousing centre, allowing companies to ship goods via rail all around Australia.

Western Sydney University (WSU) is one of Australia's largest universities, with 42,000 students, and is among the countries highest ranked. The university, which has a campus at Campbelltown, is ranked in the world's top 100 universities under the age of 50 in the influential Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

WSU Campbelltown Campus is the designated Integrated Health Hub of the Western Sydney Innovation Corridor. The university is one of Australia's largest providers of medical, nursing and healthcare professionals. The WSU School of Medicine, which opened at the Campbelltown Campus in 2008, graduates more than 100 doctors each year - 70% of these doctors stay and practice medicine in the city and surrounding region.

Additionally, the $21 million, four-storey Macarthur Clinical School recently constructed at Campbelltown Hospital, is providing advanced training to medical students and researchers, and creating opportunities for medical professionals in the city.

In vocation education, TAFE South West Sydney Institute – one of Australia's largest organisations with more than 62,000 students – has campuses throughout the city, including Campbelltown and Macquarie Fields.

Campbelltown's growing community also continues to grow in skill level. The number of Campbelltown residents with post-secondary school qualifications has increased - between 2016 and 2021, the number of people with a Diploma, Bachelor or Higher degree increased by 39.4%.

This increase in higher education attainment represents our skilled and varied labour force, which provides ready-made opportunities for prospective businesses looking to relocate, expand or develop into the area. 

The city's land availability and capacity for greenfield developments are critical in the context of Sydney's diminished land supply, rising land prices and intensifying population pressures. Campbelltown has significant tracts of underdeveloped land available for development.

The Campbelltown LGA has key land for residential, commercial and industrial development and redevelopment, located close to major road and rail transport networks, and available at competitive prices.

There are seven urban precincts located along the Glenfield to Macarthur rail corridor, plus 24 hectares of land to be utilised for employment within the proposed Menangle Park and Mount Gilead release areas.

Campbelltown City Council is encouraging more start-up ventures to form in the city, with the potential for further growth in this area facilitated by the greater collaboration with WSU and TAFE South Western Sydney Institute in this area.
