Streets As Shared Spaces
We all know the importance of good public spaces, particularly in our city centres - they give our cities a sense of character and showcase their unique identities, they provide us somewhere for social interactions and as our cities grow, they give us access to open space outside of our homes.
In recognition of the benefits of great quality public spaces, the State Government created Streets as Shared Spaces - a grant funded program that gave councils the opportunity to test and trial innovative, but temporary changes, to local streets. In late 2020, we received a $1 million grant to deliver temporary infrastructure and activation programs on Queen Street - and that was how On Q was born.
Since then, public art, live music, markets, additional seating and gardens have been a feature of Queen Street - and there's more to come...
