Project summary

The Dharawal Nature Play Space is a recreational play facility inspired by Aboriginal culture, the local environment and people. The proposed regional-level nature play space within the Simmos Beach Parkland will provide a unique play area surrounded entirely by a natural bushland river setting, taking full advantage of the surrounding cultural context to celebrate Aboriginal cultures within the local natural environment.

Co-designed with our local Aboriginal communities, the play space will support the provision of a strong connection to Country for Campbelltown’s Aboriginal communities. The play space will engage the whole of community and visitors to our region through a creative, immersive, fun, educational and tactile experience for everyone to enjoy, and will incorporate the principals of Everyone Can Play, which provides best practice guidelines for creating play spaces that are accessible to everyone. The project will visually highlight Campbelltown's location on Dharawal Country and build understanding and pride in our First Nations cultures.

Project is estimated to be completed by mid 2028.

This project will be funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.
