Join our Gang Gang Cockatoo citizen science project

Campbelltown residents can now get involved in a new project to help increase important habitat of Gang Gang Cockatoos in our local reserves and investigate the effects of heat on their current habitat.

Council has partnered with Birdlife Australia and the University of NSW to undertake the Gang Gang Hot Property in South West Sydney project.

 “This project builds on previous citizen science activities which helped to identify where Gang Gang Cockatoos could be found in Campbelltown,” Mayor George Greiss said.

“It’s a great way for people in the community to get involved with preserving an iconic Australian species and helping them to thrive in Campbelltown,” Dr Greiss said.

“I’d also like to thank for Macarthur Birds for their ongoing support of our Gang Gang Cockatoo projects over the past two years,” he said.

A Council workshop is being held on Saturday 9 September from 9am to 11am where residents can learn about the project and find out how they can get involved in an upcoming survey of Gang Gang locations.

People can also sign up to the Gang Gang Cockatoo Edu-Action Course hosted by Birdlife Australia to learn about how they can help protect cockatoos in their own area and record sightings.
