Campbelltown’s Chemical CleanOut looks different this year

Residents can dispose of household quantities of chemical waste, free of charge, at Campbelltown’s annual Household Chemical CleanOut. In response to feedback from the community, this year the Chemical CleanOut will be held over two events. The first event will be held on Saturday 11 May from 9am to 3.30pm at Veolia Campbelltown Service Centre, 59 Junction Road, Leumeah, with another day to come later in the year.
Funded by the NSW EPA ‘Waste Less, Recycle More’ initiative as part of the waste levy, the service provides locals the chance to drop off up to 20 litres or 20kg of any one qualifying item, ranging from household cleaners and pesticides to car batteries and smoke detectors.
“Holding the Household Chemical CleanOut over two events throughout the year, rather than one, allows residents to safely clear out unwanted chemical waste more regularly,” Mayor George Greiss said.
“Through this, we hope to minimise the risk of incorrectly disposed of, or dumped, chemical waste.” Dr Greiss said.
Items that will be accepted include:
- Solvents and household cleaners
- Floor care products
- Ammonia-based cleaners
- Fluorescent globes and tubes
- Smoke detectors
- Paint and paint related products
- Pesticides and herbicides
- Poisons
- Gas bottles
- Fire extinguishers
- Pool chemicals
- Hobby chemicals
- Acids and alkalis
- Car batteries
- Motor oils, fuels and liquids
Bookings are not required for this free service. Residents are encouraged to check the quantity/threshold limits on our website, Household Chemical CleanOut - Campbelltown City Council.
Residents are also encouraged to visit our Community Recycling Centre at Hepher Road, Campbelltown. Many items accepted at the Household Chemical CleanOut can be dropped off here all year round.
