Campbelltown took another step towards becoming a world class destination city with the adoption of the strategic framework, vision and growth pillars developed as part of Phase 1 of Reimagining Campbelltown CBD project, at last night’s Council meeting.
Reimagining Campbelltown CBD aims to kick-start new employment and investment in one of the fastest growing economic regions in the country, by attracting and supporting the next generation of jobs, homes and lifestyle.
The vision prepared by a consortium headed by Deloitte in partnership with Council, has been developed to help ensure Campbelltown CBD, and broader Macarthur region, is positioned to leverage the growth, investment and opportunities of the future.
It received an overwhelmingly positive response during the robust public consultation process, which included a stakeholder workshop with Greater Sydney Commission Chief Commissioner, Lucy Turnbull, forums with the Combined Chambers and at NSW Parliament House, an online survey, pop up stalls and Civic Centre drop in sessions.
More than 430 surveys were completed, with over 90 per cent of respondents indicating support for the principles outlined in the vision, and almost 200 ‘free form’ comments. Notably, about 30 per cent of respondents left their contact details, indicating a willingness to be involved in future workshops.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said Macarthur was expected to be home to an extra 800,000 people within the next 25 years, and the development and adoption of the Reimagining Campbelltown CBD vision reflected Council’s leadership and commitment to creating a better future for the local community.
“Our CBD and city has lots of potential – it’s strategically located, has vast natural spaces, health and education clusters and a rapidly growing population. This vision aims to maximise those assets,” he said.
“It focuses on building Australia’s greenest and most sustainable city centre, providing new ways of connecting people and places, growing diverse local jobs, and delivering high quality lifestyle opportunities.
“The community’s response to the draft report, both in terms of the quantity and positive nature of the feedback is encouraging, and Council will continue to undertake significant community and stakeholder engagement as we move from the vision to the detailed planning phases of the vision.”
