Keeping Students Safe

The Campbelltown Local Government area has over 50 primary schools and over 30 high schools. Each school zone presents its own unique road safety challenges, however the most common issues across all school zones are vehicles exceeding the 40km/h speed limit, drivers using their handheld mobile telephone and illegal parking in the school zone.

In a large number of cases, these offences are being committed by the parents and carers of students they are dropping to, or collecting from, school.

Council, in conjunction with Transport for NSW and NSW Police Force, develop ideas and practical solutions to help keep students safe around schools, as they travel to school and home again.

Please visit the Centre for Road Safety - Schools webpage for more information regarding Safety Outside Schools.

School Zone speeding

  • At 40 km/h it takes about 30 seconds to get from one end of a school zone to the other. So if you're doing over 40 km/h - SLOW DOWN - before you kill something more precious than time
  • The majority of school zones in NSW operate between 8.00am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4.00pm on school days
  • Motorists are required to drive at no more than 40 km/h through school zones
  • There are a small number of non-standard school zone times in New South Wales
  • These zones are identified by red/orange school zone signs which indicate non-standard times. Signs at these schools display the times which apply
  • All school zones in NSW are marked with school zone signs, pavement patches and dragons teeth markings and flashing lights when the school zone is active.
