What does this mean for you?

As we start to transition our services to the new location, there will be some changes to our programs and offerings during this period.

A number of our regular programs and services will continue to run at other locations as we prepare for the move.

Borrowing, computer usage, printing and study will remain available at HJ Daley until mid this year.

Stay tuned for several exciting pop-up library events happening in the Campbelltown CBD area as we gear up for the opening.

Relocation FAQs

Where is the library moving?

The Library will be located at Old Spotlight Building, 147-157 Queen Street.

All three floors will be used for Library and community, with the potential for one floor to be dedicated to after-hours services.

Why is the library moving?

HJ Daley Library has served our community for over 30 years in its current location at 1 Hurley Street.

When it was opened in 1991, it was tailored to a smaller population. As our city has grown, so has the demand for a space that can provide for the increased number of programs and resources required to service the community.

As part of Council’s agreement with Genesis Care to enable the development of a new health precinct on the site, we have received advanced notice of a DA being lodged for stage two of the Genesis Care health precinct.

What parking or other transport options will be available at the new library site?

The new site is located conveniently in the Campbelltown CBD.

There is extensive public parking available in the old Spotlight car park at Milgate Lane and in other areas of the Campbelltown CBD for visitors to use. There are also significant accessible parking options around the new site, including on Queen Street and in the old Spotlight car park at Milgate Lane.

The library will also be a short walk from Campbelltown Station. Several nearby bus stops provide accessibility to the site from across Campbelltown. There will also be an accessible entrance to the new site from Queen Street.

Will all staff be retained as part of the relocation project?

Yes, all existing staff will move to the new library facility.

Why was the old spotlight centre chosen as the site of the library?

The assessment criteria for a new premises considered a range of factors including availability, location and proximity to the city centre, floor space, accessibility and commercial considerations.

It is anticipated that the new location will introduce 10,000 additional visitors to the city centre each month, creating significant economic uplift in the area.

The location will also increase the ability of Council to trial new services and programs in conjunction with community partners within the Campbelltown City Centre.

Are all services and programs moving to the new location?

All current programs and services offered at Campbelltown Library will be retained at the new site.

What does this mean for the proposed South West Sydney Community and Justice Precinct?

Council is continuing to advocate for the development of the proposed South West Sydney Community and Justice Precinct in the Campbelltown CBD.

Does the new library site have disability access?

As part of the relocation process we will review the disability access to the site in order to ensure our library services remain accessible to all in our community.
