To reduce litter in our suburbs, we’re offering free bin locks to households experiencing issues with birds accessing their bins, or bins being blown over in windy conditions.
How to apply for a bin lock
To qualify for a free bin lock you must:
- Live in the Campbelltown Local Government Area
- Have an ongoing issue with birds accessing your bins, the wind blowing your bins over or another issue where the bin lock may help
- Commit to providing feedback by completing a survey after installation of the locks and again in six months
- Choose a lock from the two brands available (see below), specify whether one or two locks are required and be responsible for their installation
- Collect the locks from Council’s Civic Centre after the application has been approved and processed.

Locks
We have two types of locks available, and their installation process is different. Instructions are available on the Secure -A-Lid and Safewaste’s websites. Please review this information before selecting which lock is right for you.
Tips to stop birds from accessing your bins
- Make sure your bins are not overfilled and the lid is completely closed.
- Ensure your recycling is clean and there is no food in any of your recyclable containers.
- Make sure your general waste is bagged so it is harder for the birds to access any items in your general waste bin.
