Disposable Face Masks

Taking off your mask and disposing of it safely

• Untie the strings behind your head or stretch the ear loops
• Handle only by the ear loops or ties
• Fold outside corners together
• Put your single use mask in a sealed bag (if possible) before placing it in a general rubbish bin
• Store your wet reusable mask in a plastic bag until you get home and put it in the washing machine (learn more about how to wash masks).
• Don’t put disposable masks in the recycling  bin. Most single-use masks contain soft plastics and cannot be recycled. They can also get caught in recycling equipment and be a hazard to waste management workers.
